The move comes hot on the heels of Virgin Australia’s move last week to boost flights to New Zealand out of Brisbane.

In longhaul operations, Qantas will add a fifth weekly A330 service on QF41/42 Sydney – Jakarta between 7 December 2015 and 10 January 2016 and will move its resumed Perth – Singapore services to daily between 30 November 2015 and 21 February 2016.

In other news, Qantas’ partner Emirates will upgrade its flights on the one-stop Melbourne – Singapore – Dubai route (EK405, returning to Australia as EK404) to be operated by an Airbus A380 aircraft from 2 March 2016. We have previously reviewed a flight on EK405 Melbourne – Singapore in first class.

The service is currently operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The move will mean Emirates’ only Melbourne flight which sees the Boeing 777 aircraft will be the one-stop Melbourne – Kuala Lumpur – Dubai route (EK409, returning to Australia as EK408).

  1. Great news as I am a relatively frequent customer of EK404/405! Getting a little tired of EK’s 77W nowadays make it a point to avoid it when I fly on this route.

    • Correction: “Getting a little tired of EK’s 77W nowadays that I will almost always make it a point to avoid it when I fly on this route.”
