Virgin Australia launch triple points offer

Virgin Austalia’s frequent flyer program, Velocity, has launched a promotion offering double Velocity Points in Economy and triple Velocity Points in Premium Economy or Business Class on flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.

It is necessary to register for the offer and then book between 10 August and 16 August 2015 for travel between 1 October 2015 and 29 February 2016.

The key conditions are:

  • Eligible flights are flights for travel between 1 October 2015 and 29 February 2016 inclusive that are marketed and operated by Virgin Australia on bookings which normally accrue points.
  • Codeshare flights marketed or operated by partner airlines are excluded from this promotion. This means a flight operated by Virgin Australia but booked under a partners’ (such as Etihad’s, EY) flight number won’t qualify. This differs from Virgin’s most recent promotion.
  • Any applicable tier bonus earned will not attract bonus Points as a result of this offer. So for example, Platinum members will only earn 15 points per dollar spent on domestic economy travel (5 points per dollar base earn, 5 points per dollar for platinum and a further 5 points per dollar for this promotion).

While this promotion is not as generous as Virgin’s previous promotions (which have included a triple points on all classes of tickets), it’s better than a kick in the teeth. Don’t forget to register!
